Between Paris and Amsterdam opened the tunnel, covered 16 thousand solar panels. They provide electricity to a train passing by, moving at a speed of 300 km / hour. The length of the tunnel is 3600 m. This is the first project of its kind implemented in Europe. The cost of solar panels produced by Belgium's Enfinity, amounted to 14.14 million euros. They cover an area equivalent to the area of eight football fields. In addition to that obtained with the help of their energy goes to work trains, electricity is also used for the needs of the city of Antwerp. Each year, the solar panels will generate 3.3 thousand megawatt-hours, which can cover the electricity needs of about 950 families.
According to specialists, the battery installation will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 47.3 million kg over the past two decades.
